It’s another hot and humid day in Southern Ontario. Sweets is handling it much better now that he is all groomed. He no longer spends all of his time on the kitchen floor. I’ve decided that from now on, he is getting groomed every 6 weeks instead of every 8. It’s only 2 weeks difference, but I think it will make all the difference in his comfort level, especially during the summer months.
Here he is chilling on top of his favourite couch. He spends most of his napping time here. You can see how obviously relaxed he is in this video. After I finished shooting it, he moved to the other couch. I guess I irritated the poor little thing. Awww!
I’ve been walking Sweets first thing in the morning (about 6 am) because it gets so damn hot and humid these days. I think he appreciates the walkies and the fact that it isn’t too hot for him. When it’s really hot and I take him for a walk, on the way back home he coughs a couple of times. As I’m sure you can imagine, I freak out a little. The vet said he has a minor heart murmur and that this could happen. Still, it makes me really nervous.
Sweets got groomed yesterday. These photos are from before that, obv. To cool Sweets off before his grooming, I gave him refrigerated peanut butter in a Kong. Again, it was ass-in-air good, as you can see. I think he could live on this stuff. He just loves it. He prefers peanut butter to marrow bones.
Sweets reminded me it was about time I update his blog by sticking his tongue out at me. Either that or he just had some peanut butter remnants on his moustache.
Sweets went to the groomers (or as he says “butcher”) yesterday to get a nice cool hair cut. It’s really short, like I requested. I also requested that she (the groomer) cut a lot off of his ears (a couple of inches) and chop his tail much shorter as well. His tail fur/hair was so long that when his tail wasn’t curled over his back, it would drag on the floor. The grooming couldn’t have come too soon because it is scorching hot again this week. I’m going to start getting him groomed every 6 weeks instead of 8. I think 8 weeks is just that little bit too long.
I’ll be sure to post photos of his spiffy new look soon. He does look really super cute, though. He always does, but now, especially so.

Poor Sweets! I’ve tried everything to cool him off today. I even resorted to draping a moist, cool bath towel over him and petting him. I think he really liked that. I also gave him a frozen marrow bone, but he just wasn’t in the mood for it. He just pretty much passes out on the clic flooring in the kitchen.
Today was the hottest of the hot days we’ve had during this wretched heat wave. In the humidex (heat index, US’ers) it was 45′C. That’s approximately 120′F. It is so hot that neither of us can get any relief. I really wished I hadn’t waited so long to get him groomed now. Poor little guy.
Notice the “frown” on his face and the “heat waves” coming off his body? I took him for a walk at 5:30am this morning so I could get a walk in and so it wouldn’t be too hot for him. It was still really hot anyway. He managed fine, however.
Notice the ugly shoes appearing in the mirrored image. I had to point those out and say that those aren’t my regular shoes. They are my official comfy-wear-on-any-terrain-dog-walking shoes. They are so worn out now but they are the most comfortable shoes of that type that I own. They never cause blisters, but my god are they ugly.
Anyway, I hope you are all keeping cool. Esp. my friends on the east coast of N. America. They say the heat wave ends for us tomorrow (Toronto area). We are supposed to get some storms, so I am pretty excited about all this and hopefully Sweets will be back to his normal self. Again…poor little guy!

Poor Sweets is dying of heat. It is so hot here they are officially calling it a heat wave and it is not going to let up for days. It is 43′C in the humidex (I think that’s “heat index” for you from the US). That’s 109.4′F!!!! I just looked it up for accuracy. I can’t believe it.
Poor Sweets is due for a grooming as well. I called yesterday thinking it would just be a couple of days but they don’t have a space for him until next Tuesday. I feel so bad for him. He’s spending 80% of his time laying on the kitchen floor because underneath that floor is concrete so it is cooler for him. Fans don’t do anything for him, which I guess makes sense because dogs sweat throught their paws. (Between them, I think). Poor little guy can’t get any relief.
I’m going to invest in an air conditioner but I can guarantee they are all temp. sold out right now due to the heat wave. I’m so getting one, though. It wasn’t this hot last summer so I didn’t bother to get one. Plan ahead, people, plan ahead.
Here are some photos of Sweets in desperate need of cooler weather and sympathy. I’ve tried ice cubes but he isn’t interested in them. I think I’ll put some p.b. in a Kong and freeze it. I know that will interest him for sure.

Caught this video of little Sweets last night having one of his favourite treats: a marrow bone. Sometimes I wonder if I should pull the “innerds” of the bone out because it seems so fattening. The last thing Sweets needs is fattening food. I do have to say this, though, it’s really gross watching him eat this. Pulling and striping flesh off of bone is not my idea of appetizing. Y’know what I mean? Anyway, for your viewing pleasure…”Sweets and the Nasty Marrow Bone”.
My Mom is sooo super crazy. She is obsessed with giving me kisses. All she does is kiss, kiss, kiss. It’s enough to drive a dog nuts.
For some reason, she loves kissing the little white patch on my chest. Again, c-r-a-z-y!!!
Her most favourite place to give me kisses is right where my ears join my head???? What’s with that? She says it’s the softest fur ever. Humph!
She kisses here quite frequently too. I think it’s gross, personally. I don’t know why she kisses here. Can any dog help me out with this one? Does your Mom or Dad kiss you here too? I bet not. Again…c-r-a-z-y, with a capital “C”.
